Obsidian Wings (Book 4 of the Rune Alexander Series)[SBM Review]

Rune Alexander Series Book 4 [Obsidian Wings]

Obsidian Wings is book four in the Rune Alexander series.
Gruesome murders begin to pop up in River County, and Rune is introduced to the bird shifters--to one bird in particular, a woman named Cree Stark.
When she gets a whiff of the shifters' scents where COS had been executing a grisly sacrifice, Rune begins to suspect the birds know more about the slayers--and the twins--than they're willing to admit.
Nothing is more important to Shiv Crew than finding Levi and Denim, but when Lex psychically connects with the twins, it isn't good news she brings back.
As always, COS is at the center of it all.
The world is beginning to look at the church differently, thanks to the tireless work of Bill Rice and others like him. The humans' acceptance is turning to fear.

And what people fear, they hate.
What the slayers are planning next will either finish them for good or give them everything they've ever wanted--Karin Love and unchallenged power.
Rune and the crew race against time to save River County from the biggest monster they've faced yet. If they fail, the church will be closer than ever to their dream of creating an Otherless world.
In Obsidian Wings, Rune hides a devastating physical weakness, makes an important choice in her love life, and gains a new understanding that will help her face the future.
No matter what happens, their world is changing.
The crew is growing.
And so is Rune Alexander.

This series just keeps getting better and better. The action, mystery, the crew, and of course Rune are amazing! This series is just non stop action. Even the low parts are filled with tension and mystery. This book finds Rune in a bit of a "situation". When isn't she, right? She's on the trail for her twins and she won't stop until she gets them home. We find out more about other members of the crew. Rune is now not only asking for help, but welcoming it. Rune is the monster and the monster is her, but the crew is her family and that's who completes her. Cane grabbed my attention with the first book in the series and hasn't let up yet! This is a series that all paranormal readers need to read! I'm obsessed with the Shiv Crew and I love telling everyone about it.

Age of Alphas Winter's Dawn by Kele Moon

Age of Alphas

Long ago four alpha pairs held dominance over the seasons. They led an ancient people only heard of in legend who were both wolves and humans. The alphas were chosen by the gods to wield great powers and bring peace and balance to their people.

Everything changed when members of their race later known as the rogues were driven mad by the taste of human flesh. They sought to kill the great alphas.

They succeeded.

Without them, the remaining wolves became weak and could no longer reproduce. Their race was slowly threatening to descend into nothing but a distant memory.

Over a century has passed before hope shines on the horizon for this ancient people. A new winter alpha pair is born and with them the promise of rebirth for the monarchy. Maxwell Wellington was crowned Head King on the Winter Solstice when he watched his aunt die giving birth to his mate, Queen Susan.

He was just three years old.

Max and Susie are born into a world where they are the youngest, but already the most powerful, yet they long for normalcy. With no other young werewolves around, they turn to human schooling hoping for playmates.

But the human culture forces them to question everything their people have raised them to believe. Cousins as well as mates, Max starts resisting his connection to Susie despite knowing they share a soul and were born to rule together. When the call to roam overtakes him at eighteen, Max finds himself fighting his nature as a deadly and powerful alpha wolf who will stop at nothing to claim Susie. Now he has just three years to build up a defense against her before time runs out and she goes into heat.

As winter dawns, Max and Susie come of age in a new era for werewolves. Their story is the first step in a long journey that explores the triumphs and tragedies of one powerful, royal family and those who serve them. The battles they wage against nature, each other and the forces that rise against them will change the dynamic of not just their world...but ours as well.

I love paranormal reads. Although the book description got my attention I couldn't fully connect with the story. In my reading experience I was use to werewolves mating for life. So this one was different for me. The romance was for me not there. Although it was an interesting story, well written and a new take on werewolf history. It didn't connect with me. However if you want a new look on werewolves you might want to give this a try.

The Black House by Peter May

The Black House

When a brutal murder on the Isle of Lewis bears the hallmarks of a similar slaying in Edinburgh, police detective Fin Macleod is dispatched north to investigate. But since he himself was raised on Lewis, the investigation also represents a journey home and into his past.

I chose this book because of the mystery, but this book was more than just a mystery. It included much of the setting which I enjoyed. The detective has to go back home and solve a crime. The murder mystery kept my attention and the struggle of the main character was interesting. The writing was so great and I would love to read more from May.

A Curse Awakened by Cecy Robson

A Curse Awakened

Celia Wird shouldn’t possess the ability to transform into a tigress. Her three sisters should never be able to burst into flames, heal wounds, or transform common objects into deadly weapons. And yet they do.

Before they were born, the Wird Sisters were cursed by a spell that was intended to destroy them, not endow them with extraordinary powers. The sisters’ magic is untamed and explosive at best, and time is running out for them to take command.

Vampires have targeted Celia’s sweet, tragically human ex-boyfriend Danny. The sisters rush to his aid, but in order to take down the vamps, first they must face their dark past and break a spell that’s screwing up their powers. Except this curse wasn’t meant to be broken . . . and the witch who cast it isn’t done toying with them yet.

This is a prequel and I haven't read the series before. However after this I can't wait to read more about the Wird Sisters. I just love paranormal reads and this was one of the better ones. It caught my attention right from the start and the story line kept me up reading. I need to get my hands on this series and I can't wait.

If I Were You by Lisa Renee Jones [SBM Review]

If I Were You

How it all started…

One day I was a high school teacher on summer break, leading a relatively uneventful but happy life. Or so I told myself. Later, I’d question that, as I would question pretty much everything I knew about me, my relationships, and my desires. It all began when my neighbor thrust a key to a storage unit at me. She’d bought it to make extra money after watching some storage auction show. Now she was on her way to the airport to elope with a man she barely knew, and she needed me to clear out the unit before the lease expired.

Soon, I was standing inside a small room that held the intimate details of another woman’s life, feeling uncomfortable, as if I was invading her privacy. Why had she let these items so neatly packed, possessions that she clearly cared about deeply, be lost at an auction? Driven to find out by some unnamed force, I began to dig, to discover this woman’s life, and yes, read her journals—-dark, erotic journals that I had no business reading. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. I read on obsessively, living out fantasies through her words that I’d never dare experience on my own, compelled by the three men in her life, none of whom had names. I read onward until the last terrifying dark entry left me certain that something had happened to this woman. I had to find her and be sure she was okay.

Before long, I was taking her job for the summer at the art gallery, living her life, and she was nowhere to be found. I was becoming someone I didn’t know. I was becoming her.

The dark, passion it becomes…

Now, I am working at a prestigious gallery, where I have always dreamed of being, and I’ve been delivered to the doorstep of several men, allof which I envision as one I’ve read about in the journal. But there is one man that will call to me, that will awaken me in ways I never believed possible. That man is the ruggedly sexy artist, Chris Merit, who wants to paint me. He is rich and famous, and dark in ways I shouldn’t find intriguing, but I do. I so do. I don’t understand why his dark side appeals to me, but the attraction between us is rich with velvety promises of satisfaction. Chris is dark, and so are his desires, but I cannot turn away. He is damaged beneath his confident good looks and need for control, and in some way, I feel he needs me. I need him.

All I know for certain is that he knows me like I don’t even know me, and he says I know him. Still, I keep asking myself — do I know him? Did he know her, the journal writer, and where is she? And why doesn’t it seem to matter anymore? There is just him and me, and the burn for more.

Although this isn't my usual genre the book description intrigued me. I enjoyed exploring the journals and really getting into the characters head. The mystery kept me interested and I couldn't put it down until I found out just what would happen next. Although I enjoyed it for the most part I'm not sure that I will read the next installment. I just didn't connect with it.

Indiscretion:Volume 3 by Elisabeth Grace [SBM Review]

Indiscretion: Volume 3

A summer of f*ck buddies? Something to take the edge off? I was down.
But when Chloe shows up at my hotel door, wanting to rip my head off, rather than give me head—I cared. A lot. Too much, in fact.
This is turning into more. And I can’t do more.
Like the ink under my skin she’s becoming permanent. Enduring. Immovable.
Was I ready to let her go though?
Not a f*cking chance.

I love Grace and hate her at the same time! This series has become one of my favorites. It keeps me on the edge of my seat and anxious to find out what happens next! I never had a "favorite couple" before, but I do now. I admire and root for Chloe. I would love to hang out and have a few drinks with her. Max, he is so hot and I lust for that man! Grace writes the book in two points of view. I love being able to get a glimpse into each of the characters feelings and points of view. No matter what I might be in the middle of reading once I get a new installment of this series I go right to it! If you like Erotic Contemporary Romance this is going to be your new favorite series!

Haleigh's Ink by Jennifer Kacey [SBM Review]

Haleigh's Ink

Members Only, Book Two “Ink.” A three-letter word that meant different things to many people. Pictures and words that might stand as a reminder of love, loss, rebellion, or camaraderie. For Haleigh Grace, it meant freedom. Walking through the doors of the tattoo parlor, Inkfluence, marked the start of taking her life back. Making it what she wanted it to be. No one was going to tell her she couldn’t. Not ever again. Little did she know that behind those doors stood Kyle Muse. He’d been her best friend, who had walked away years ago without a backwards glance. The one man she fantasized would someday be her knight in shining armor. The one she’d saved herself for. But he has a knight of his own. Tall, dark and dangerously sexy Scott Preston. The owner of the very shop Haleigh has an appointment with at midnight. Feelings long buried rise to the surface and the three find themselves bound by more than just ink…

A Romantica® ménage BDSM erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave

Holy hotness!! This series is easily starting to become one of my favorites. I got to meet Kyle and Scott in the first book. They were hot then, but this is so much more. Kacey gives us a look into the private lives of Kyle and Scott. The past comes back and with it changes the men's lives forever. This is a menage you don't want to miss.  These men are in my dreams at night! I can't wait to continue my journey through the Members Only series.

The Mermaid's Pearl by Brooke Kennedy [SBM Review]

\
The Mermaid's Pearl

Raewyn is tougher than your average mermaid princess. She lives in a fortress far beneath the surface of the ocean, where she constantly breaks the rules. Fear of extinction has caused the merfolk to arrange marriages and take away romantic freedoms, causing Raewyn’s hopes and dreams of true love to crumple. After a quest gone wrong, she finds herself held captive aboard the Devil’s Pearl, among the worst humans of all—pirates.

Captain Aiden Flynn is handsome and charming, spending his time sailing the seas and hording treasure. His villainous reputation has even reached the depths of the ocean. When he finds a dark-haired beauty ensnared in his net, he puts on his best charms in hopes of finding out just who she is.

Will his dangerous, yet charming, demeanor win her over? Or will he fall, as many other men have, to the wiles of a mermaid princess?

(this is a romantic adventure/na crossover. Includes adult situations and not recommended for readers younger than 17)

I enjoyed reading The Mermaid's Pearl. I just loved the main character, Raewyn, She's young, hopeful, and looking to change the future. What all young people should be doing, in my opinion. She loves everyone and just wants to be herself. Not whats expected of her, but to become her own woman. She seeks out adventure with some help. The adventure kept me glued to my e-reader. I couldn't put it down until I found out what happens next! I hope to get a chance to continue this journey with another book!

I am just loving this series. Nicholas is so all consuming. I just loved this character. He has to do what's expected of him, but he just can't help himself. Rebecca is having a hard time keeping Nicholas at arms length. I for one think she's crazy for trying!! She gets an unexpected surprise at the end and it could change everything for her. I can't wait to read the 3rd book!!

Black Lies by Alessandra Torre [SBM Review]

Black Lies

Brant:
Became a tech billionaire by his twentieth birthday. Has been in a relationship with me for 3 years.

Has proposed 4 times. Been rejected 4 times.

Lee:

Cuts grass when he’s not banging housewives. Good with his hands, his mouth, and his cock. Has been pursued relentlessly by me for almost 2 years, whether he knows it or not.

Go ahead. Judge me. You have no idea what my love entails.

If you think you’ve heard this story before, trust me – you haven’t.

This book was amazing. When I started the book I really liked Layana Fairmont. She was determined to live her life on her terms and now what was expected of her. While I reading she confused me and then scared me. After that I didn't think I cared much for her, but the story was still so intriguing I couldn't stop reading.

The men in this story OMG so hot! Brant was so attentive and caring. He's a real life prince charming and I just fell in love!  Now Lee, wow. He is brash and rude and use woman for his pleasure, but by god he was so damn hot. I lusted for that man!

The mystery drove me crazy and Torre kept me guessing. I can't even tell you how many times I changed my mind with what I thought the mystery was.

By the end of the book I was exhausted. Not only because of the lack of sleep from staying up so late reading Black Lies, but also the emotional ride Torre took me on in this book.

Resist Me by Chelle Bliss [SBM Review]

Resist Me (Men of Inked Book 3)

Izzy Gallo has never been described as a member of the weaker sex. She’s a woman who doesn’t take shit from anyone. Growing up with four older overprotective brothers has hardened her, making her a force to be reckoned with.

Against the wishes of her two brothers, Joe and Mike, Izzy takes a weekend trip to Bike Week in Daytona, turning her world upside down.

Over her head, in a world she doesn’t understand, there’s only one man who can save her.

James Caldo has dedicated his life to protect and serve as a member of the DEA. He’s cocky, overbearing, and doesn’t take no for an answer – the Gallo men have nothing on him.

When their paths cross, James makes Izzy question everything she believes about completely surrendering to the opposite sex.

Does James have what it takes to overpower the headstrong Izzy, capturing her heart forever?

This is my favorite of the series so far. Who doesn't love Izzy, but this shows us a side of Izzy that you may not expect. She runs her brothers, but has she finally met her match? I enjoy how Bliss gives us two point of views of her story. Being able to get inside the characters thoughts and emotions helped me to understand the characters motives. If you enjoy the men of inked series so far you won't be disappointed! The drama and suspense keeps you on the edge of your seats and you can't tear yourself away.
