EL-204 by Lucian Barnes [SBM Review]

EL-204

For Jason Lambert, a prominent M.I.T. geneticist, fear of natural death has become a thing of distant memories. His latest concoction has, in a sense, increased his longevity and made him nearly immortal.
Over the past one hundred years, the technological advances of medical science have rendered the deadliest diseases of the twentieth century insignificant. Cancer, heart disease, and AIDS are no longer a death sentence. Serums have been developed to eradicate the problematic cells and their growth.
When he meets a beautiful woman, his world is turned upside down. Add to this the government's sudden interest in his research, and things begin to spiral out of control. We all know what happens when the military gets involved. Greed takes over, and ethics are pushed to their boundaries. Will Jason be able to juggle his responsibilities without compromising his integrity, or will his experiments lead to the evolution of a new breed of monster?

This was one twisted tale! It started off innocent enough, but it didn't stay that way for long! I have to admit Heaven scared me early on. She was just creepy scary. The story made me cringe and made my stomach turn more than once. So obviously I just loved this story!! I love reading Barnes books and can't wait to get my hands on his next one.

Hot-Blooded by Kendall Grey [SBM Review]

Hot-Blooded

'Ohana is everything...
When an accident claims her mother's life, Keahilani Alana must take charge of her 'ohana(family) or risk losing what little they have. With an underage brother to care for and no education, she has few options. The door to a heavenly hellish opportunity opens when she stumbles upon a valuable secret her mother left behind on the slopes of an extinct volcano-a legacy that tempts the family with riches beyond their wildest dreams. But the secret is much bigger and more sinister than they realize. As reality unravels and exposes eerie truths about the 'ohana that should have remained deep under the mountain, Keahilani must either resist the call of her blood or risk being consumed by its darkness.
Blake Murphy is an assassin working to infiltrate a new Hawaiian cartel. His investigation reveals that Keahilani, the sexy surfing instructor he pegged as an informant, is much closer to the drug ring than he thought. Passion ignites between them in the bedroom, but their ironclad ties to opposing interests pit them against each other everywhere else.
When tensions reach the breaking point and her 'ohana is threatened, the only cure for Keahilani's hot-blooded fury is a loaded clip with a body bag chaser.
They don't call her Pele for nothing.
* HOT-BLOODED is a suspense/thriller that contains drug use and graphic sex, language, and violence. This book is unsuitable for sensitive readers and those under the age of 18.
This 1st edition paperback is the original, "Director's Cut" version of HOT-BLOODED. The 2nd edition (with new cover and slightly different content) is only available in ebook format. Those who've read the first version do not need to reread the second.

This story was so full of twists and turns and kept me on the edge of my seat. Grey's writing was dark, suspenseful, and heartbreaking. I became invested in these characters right from the start. I just loved this book and can't wait to read more from Grey.

The Bridal Contract by Sandra Sookoo [SBM Reivew]

The Bridal Contract

When a bridal contract is struck, either parental outrage will void the arrangement or the love of a child will sweeten the deal.
Oliver Darrington-Viscount Tralsburg-wants nothing more than to hide out at the family property in Brighton until he can secure a sea-worthy ship and return to adventuring the world. However, being handed his former mistress' child isn't part of that plan. Neither is the sudden longing for his pretty Italian neighbor.
Eloisa Hawthorne is in dire straits. Her older brother has gambled away her sister's hand to a horrible man. In order to save her sister's virtue and her future, Eloisa needs a fast fortune-or someone who can immediately cover the debt. When her handsome neighbor offers a temporary engagement contract, she accepts with alacrity. Too bad she fell in love with his dark-haired offspring. How scandalous!
When the two attend his mother's London dinner party, Oliver wishes the union wasn't merely a lark. Eloisa fears for the adorable child's upbringing in heathen locales, but what can she do? The contract is only for a month, and love was never an option. Something must be done to throw over convention before the moment is lost and matters of the heart are sacrificed.

This was a nice quick read. Sookoo brought humor into the story which made it fun for me. Overall this was a sweet historical read for me. Sookoo's writing was wonderful and transported me into her world. I hope to read more from Sookoo.

Broken Protocols 3 by Dale Mayer [SBM Review]

Broken Protocols 3

Dani and Levi Blackburn have slid from being in trouble to borderline hell...

They uncover hints of a dangerous conspiracy permeating the very foundation of their society. And people are disappearing, one by one...

If it weren't for Levi’s twisted-genius brother and Charmin Marvin, Dani's talking cat, they wouldn't have gotten this far. At least, not alive.

Only they aren't far enough, because someone is still after Dani – and everyone connected to her.

They need to find a way to expose the massive cover up- and fast… before they are eliminated. Forever.

This was such a fun series. I loved following this series. The series has everything, humor, mystery, action, romance. I loved the time I spent in Mayer's world. I can't wait to read more from this author.

Pariah

Abandoned in the Human Realm, their Descendants keep to the shadows, secretly controlling criminal organizations and swaying governments. Jin, a Seelie Descendant, refuses to swear allegiance to any Clan. Marked as a pariah, he is banished from their society. One ill-fated evening, Jin breaks the rules to visit the family he left behind. A chance meeting with an old enemy draws him into a murderous plot that could propel the Human Realm into a bloody war. His warning of insurrection goes unheeded. Determined to keep the plan secret, the conspirator summons an ancient demon with a taste for Seelie blood. It's reward? A pound of Jin's flesh.

On the run with a Death Mark on his head, Jin is desperate to find the cunning spider behind the conspiracy. With the help of Gracie Berry, a pre-cognitive with a hidden past, Jin searches for their allusive enemy before his ruthless hunters find their target.

This was such a great paranormal story. Richards writing transported me into her world. It was interesting and I grew to care for the characters. All the action and drama kept me entertained and I didn't want to leave the world that Richards created. I can't wait to read more from Richards.

Hell on Heels by Robyn Peterman [SBM Review]

Hell on Heels

Where does a Demon go when she gets deported form Hell?
Kentucky. Eden, Kentucky to be more specific—where nothing is exactly as it seems.
My name is Dixie. I’m a Demon—a lousy Demon. I’m a twenty-one year old virgin and I have a battery operated boyfriend. My magic is iffy at best and downright dangerous at worst. Leaving Hell to represent my race is not high on my list of things to do.
Hell was exact. Hell was simple. All I want to do is get to home base with the hotter than Hades Demon of my dreams and work on my dark side so Satan, my dad, will get off my ass.
Instead I end up in Kentucky looking for the Balance of Chaos, avoiding pole dancing classes with Mother Nature and finding out my invisible friend is a silver skinned destructive weather pattern.
And if that isn’t craptastic enough, the damn Sword of Death is missing again and who ever has it wants the King of the Underworld dead. Seriously.
With new powers emerging daily, keeping my Demon side, horniness and general disgust under wraps doesn’t make it any easier to fit in with the humans. Thankfully my priorities are in line; get laid…save world…try not to blow up kitchen appliances…and get laid again. I was ready to rumble.

All I want to do is go back to Hell, but with the balance of good and evil in my hands, I’m stuck in the garden of Eden. Oh well, what the Hell. Someone has to save the world before there’s no world left to save. Might as well be me.

This is such a fun and steamy series!! I am completely addicted especially to little Abe! How can you not love baby demons who love boobies and smackin bottoms! The story line was fun and interesting. Peterman had some twists in there that I never saw coming! I can't wait to get my hands on Peterman's new book! You never know what to expect, but know it's going to be one hell of a time!!

Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes (Rose Gardner Mysteries #1) by Denise Grover Swank [SBM Review]

Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes

"It all started when I saw myself dead."
For Rose Gardner, working at the DMV on a Friday afternoon is bad even before she sees a vision of herself dead. She's had plenty of visions, usually boring ones like someone's toilet's overflowed, but she's never seen one of herself before. When her overbearing momma winds up murdered on her sofa instead, two things are certain: There isn't enough hydrogen peroxide in the state of Arkansas to get that stain out, and Rose is the prime suspect.
Rose realizes she's wasted twenty-four years of living and makes a list on the back of a Wal-Mart receipt: twenty-eight things she wants to accomplish before her vision comes true. She's well on her way with the help of her next door neighbor Joe, who has no trouble teaching Rose the rules of drinking, but won't help with number fifteen-- do more with a man. Joe's new to town, but it doesn't take a vision for Rose to realize he's got plenty secrets of his own.
Somebody thinks Rose has something they want and they'll do anything to get it. Her house is broken into, someone else she knows is murdered, and suddenly, dying a virgin in the Fenton County jail isn't her biggest worry after all.
Winner of The Beacon - 2010 Unpublished Division, Mainstream Category

What a wonderful read! It had mystery, intrigue, and even humor! The story line was interesting and the main character was just wonderful. I just love Rose now and I can't wait to continue the series and follow her story. Swank just has a way with her writing that transports you into her world and I for one didn't want to leave!

The Laird by Grace Burrowes [SBM Reivew]

The Laird

He left his bride to go to war...

After years of soldiering, Michael Brodie returns to his Highland estate to find that the bride he left behind has become a stranger. Brenna is self-sufficient, competent, confident-and furious about Michael's prolonged absence.

Now his most important battle will be for her heart

Brenna is also hurt, bewildered, and tired of fighting for the respect of those around her. Michael left her when she needed him most, and then stayed away even after the war ended. Nonetheless, the young man who abandoned her has come home a wiser, more patient and honorable husband. But if she trusts Michael with the truths she's been guarding, he'll have to choose between his wife and everything else he holds dear.

I love Burrowes writing. She transports me in every book she writes. This time I got to travel to the Scottish Highlands. The story line was interesting and kept me glued to my e-reader. I loved this series and can't wait to read more from Burrowes.

Undeadly by Cynthia St. Aubin [SBM Review]

Undeadly

Halloween is just around the corner, and life is bringing Paranormal Psychologist Matilda Schmidt all tricks and no treats. Ghosts haunt her in the organic produce aisle, she's been roped into attending a costume party she'd sell her soul to avoid, and the delicious demigod who once warmed her couch is taking his clients and his attentions elsewhere.

I am just obsessed with this series!! It has to be my favorite lover's triangle of all times. Of course Matilda finds herself in a little bit of trouble. I got to find out some more about her mother and the gift they share. I'm still not sure if it's a gift or curse for Matilda, but I do know I'm going to enjoy finding out. I just love St. Aubin's writing, she transports you into the scenes. Her unique description surprises me all the time. If you're looking for a fun and oh so sexy read you need to grab, a Militilda Schmidt, Paranormal Psychologist book NOW!

The Borderlands

Rhys, a new boy at school seems to take an interest in her. But can she trust him? When the only friend she has ever had, Old Man Gareth, is murdered before her eyes, she is set on a frantic journey and a lonely adventure; the Borderlands beckon. But what are the Borderlands? This was such an interesting adventure to follow. Dale has some challenges to face and I can't wait to find out what happens in the next book. Great coming of age story.
